First Half Remains Scoreless
The opening 45 minutes saw both teams trying to establish control of the game through possession and quick attacking plays. Philadelphia looked comfortable playing in front of their home supporters and pushed forward with several attacking moves.
However, San Jose remained disciplined defensively and did well to limit clear scoring chances. Whenever the Union threatened, the Earthquakes back line stayed compact and prevented dangerous shots from reaching goal.
At the other end of the field, San Jose also had moments where they looked dangerous on the counterattack. Despite both teams finding space in attacking areas, neither side was able to break the deadlock before halftime, sending the match into the break 0–0.

Bouda Breaks the Deadlock
The decisive moment of the match came early in the second half. In the 59th minute, San Jose launched a quick attacking move that caught Philadelphia’s defense out of position.
Midfielder Niko Tsakiris helped move the ball forward before it reached forward Timo Werner on the left side. Werner delivered a well-placed pass into the box where Ousseni Bouda made a perfectly timed run behind the defense.
Bouda finished the chance calmly, placing the ball into the net and giving the Earthquakes a 1–0 lead.

Philadelphia Push for a Response
After conceding the goal, Philadelphia increased their attacking intensity and began committing more players forward. The Union tried to create space through crosses and quick passes around the penalty area.
San Jose, however, stayed organized defensively and focused on protecting their narrow advantage. The Earthquakes defenders did well to block shots and clear dangerous balls as Philadelphia searched for an equalizer.
San Jose Defends the Lead
As the match entered the final minutes, Philadelphia continued to push forward hoping to level the score. Despite the pressure, San Jose maintained their defensive shape and avoided major mistakes.
The visitors managed the final stages of the match well, slowing the tempo when necessary and clearing away Philadelphia’s late attacks. When the final whistle arrived, the Earthquakes secured a hard-fought 1–0 win.

For Philadelphia Union, the defeat was disappointing after creating several attacking moments at home, but the team will look to bounce back in their next MLS fixture.
