Western Conference Battle Ends Even

Seattle Sounders and San Diego FC shared the points on Saturday night after a competitive 1-1 draw at Lumen Field.

Both clubs entered the match looking to continue their strong form in the Western Conference, and the game delivered intensity throughout all 90 minutes. Seattle controlled much of the possession and attacking chances, while San Diego stayed organized defensively and threatened on the counterattack.

San Diego Opens the Scoring Early

San Diego FC struck first in the 18th minute through Marcus Ingvartsen.

The play began with Aníbal Godoy finding Onni Valakari in midfield before Valakari delivered a perfectly timed through ball behind Seattle’s defense. Ingvartsen made the run and calmly finished past goalkeeper Andrew Thomas to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

The early goal gave San Diego confidence as they focused on staying compact defensively while looking for quick attacking opportunities in transition.

Ingvartsen continued his strong run of form and once again proved dangerous whenever San Diego moved forward.

Seattle Controls Possession

After conceding, Seattle began taking over the match offensively.

The Sounders pushed numbers forward and controlled possession for long stretches while creating multiple scoring opportunities throughout the night. Cristian Roldan and Albert Rusnák played key roles in Seattle’s attack, helping move the ball quickly and create dangerous crosses into the penalty area.

Seattle finished the match with 27 total shots, constantly pressuring San Diego’s defense in search of an equalizer.

Despite the pressure, San Diego goalkeeper Duran Ferree delivered several important saves to keep his team in front for most of the match.

Musovski Finds the Equalizer

Seattle’s pressure finally paid off in the 80th minute.

Cristian Roldan sent a dangerous ball into the box where Danny Musovski finished from close range to level the score at 1-1.

The goal energized the home crowd and gave Seattle momentum heading into the final minutes as the Sounders continued pushing for a late winner.

Musovski’s goal marked his first MLS goal of the 2026 season and came at a crucial moment for Seattle.

Late Chances for Both Sides

The final minutes remained intense as both teams searched for a winning goal.

Seattle continued attacking aggressively, but San Diego nearly stole all three points during stoppage time. Anders Dreyer forced a save from Andrew Thomas before Marcus Ingvartsen sent the rebound opportunity over the crossbar.

San Diego’s defense managed to survive the late pressure and secure an important road point against one of the toughest home teams in MLS.

The result also extended Seattle’s long unbeaten streak at Lumen Field across all competitions.

Valuable Point for Both Teams

Although both sides had chances to win the match, the draw reflected a hard-fought battle between two competitive Western Conference teams.

Seattle continued showing strength at home with another unbeaten performance, while San Diego earned a valuable result on the road against one of MLS’ strongest clubs.

As the playoff race continues heating up, Saturday’s matchup felt like an important test for two teams hoping to remain among the top contenders in the conference.
