Cruz Azul Defeat Toluca 3-1 to Lift Campeón de Campeones Trophy

A Battle Between Mexico's Champions
Mexican football's annual Campeón de Campeones brought together two of Liga MX's best sides as Clausura champions Toluca faced Apertura champions Cruz Azul at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
With silverware on the line before the start of the new league season, both clubs entered the match eager to make an early statement. The game featured plenty of attacking football, but it was Cruz Azul who capitalized on their chances to earn a convincing 3-1 victory and lift another trophy.

Paradela Breaks the Deadlock
The opening half was evenly contested, with both teams creating opportunities and testing each other's back line. Cruz Azul gradually settled into the match and began controlling possession through the midfield.
Their pressure paid off in the 31st minute when new signing José Paradela found space inside the penalty area and calmly finished past the goalkeeper to give La Máquina a deserved 1-0 lead.
Toluca continued pushing forward in search of an equalizer, relying on the creativity of Alexis Vega and Marcel Ruiz to generate chances in the attacking third.

Vega Responds Before Halftime
Just when Cruz Azul looked set to carry the lead into the locker room, Toluca found a breakthrough in first-half stoppage time.
Alexis Vega stepped up in a big moment, finishing off a well-worked attack to level the score at 1-1. The goal shifted the momentum heading into halftime and gave Toluca renewed confidence after trailing for much of the opening period.
With the match tied after 45 minutes, the second half was set up for an entertaining finish.

Cruz Azul Takes Over
La Máquina came out of the break with far more intensity.
Their pressure quickly paid off as Carlos Rodríguez restored Cruz Azul's advantage with a composed finish after a well-built attacking move. The goal gave Cruz Azul momentum and forced Toluca to push more players forward in search of another equalizer.
Only minutes later, José Paradela struck again. The Argentine midfielder capped off an outstanding performance by scoring his second goal of the night, extending Cruz Azul's lead to 3-1 and putting the match firmly under their control.
Despite several late attacking efforts from Toluca, Cruz Azul's defense remained organized and prevented the Clausura champions from mounting a comeback.

José Paradela Steals the Spotlight
The standout performer was undoubtedly José Paradela.
The midfielder was involved throughout the match, constantly finding dangerous spaces, linking play in the attack, and finishing clinically when his opportunities arrived. His two goals proved to be the difference and earned him Man of the Match honors.
Carlos Rodríguez also delivered another strong performance in midfield, helping dictate the tempo while adding an important insurance goal during Cruz Azul's dominant second-half display.

Another Trophy for La Máquina
The victory gives Cruz Azul the 2026 Campeón de Campeones title and continues what has been an impressive run for the club over the past year. Winning another major trophy before the Apertura season begins provides confidence and momentum as they prepare to defend their place among Liga MX's elite.
For Toluca, the defeat ends their hopes of adding another trophy after their Clausura championship. While Alexis Vega once again showed his quality with a goal, the Diablos Rojos were unable to slow down Cruz Azul's attack in the second half.
As the Liga MX season approaches, Saturday's performance served as another reminder that Cruz Azul will once again be one of the favorites to compete for silverware.
