LA Galaxy Complete Comeback Against Colorado Rapids

A Tale of Two Halves

The LA Galaxy found themselves in a difficult position Saturday night, trailing the Colorado Rapids 2–0 at halftime. By the final whistle, however, everything had changed.

The Galaxy scored three unanswered goals in the second half to turn the match around and defeat Colorado 3–2 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The comeback featured an own goal that started the turnaround, a João Klauss equalizer, and a late Justin Haak header that gave the Galaxy their first lead of the night.

It was another important result for LA as the club continues fighting for position in a crowded Western Conference.

Colorado Takes Control Early

Colorado immediately put the Galaxy on the back foot.

Just four minutes into the match, Donavan Phillip opened the scoring after the Rapids won possession and quickly moved the ball forward. Josh Atencio found Phillip with a well-timed pass, allowing him to get behind the Galaxy defense and finish the chance.

The early goal gave Colorado confidence, while the Galaxy struggled to establish possession in dangerous areas.

LA had opportunities to settle into the match, but Colorado's pressure and quick transitions continued to create problems.

Rapids Add Another Before Half

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 39th minute.

Rob Holding sent a ball forward toward Paxten Aaronson, who managed to get past the Galaxy defense before finishing the chance.

Aaronson's goal made it 2–0 and put the Galaxy in a difficult position heading into halftime.

For much of the opening 45 minutes, Colorado looked more comfortable. The Rapids were able to disrupt LA's buildup and create chances whenever they won the ball back.

The Galaxy headed into the locker room needing a major response.

The Momentum Changes

The second half looked completely different.

LA came out with more energy and began playing much higher up the field. The Galaxy pressed Colorado more aggressively and started forcing the Rapids into mistakes.

That pressure eventually resulted in LA's first goal.

In the 53rd minute, Pablo Ruiz sent a free kick into the box. Justin Haak got a touch on the delivery, and the ball caused confusion inside the Colorado penalty area before ending up in the net off Reggie Cannon.

The Galaxy were suddenly within one.

The goal changed the feeling inside the stadium, and LA began playing with much more confidence.

Klauss Brings LA Level

The Galaxy continued attacking and eventually found the equalizer.

In the 66th minute, João Klauss took advantage of a Colorado mistake near the back line. After winning possession, Klauss quickly finished the opportunity to make it 2–2.

The goal was another important moment in Klauss' return to action.

After dealing with injury earlier in the season, the forward had now scored in consecutive matches. His ability to provide a target up front gave the Galaxy another dimension during the comeback.

With the score level, the match had completely shifted in LA's favor.

Haak Delivers the Winner

The Galaxy weren't satisfied with simply getting back into the match.

They kept pushing for a third goal, and their persistence paid off in the 74th minute.

Robert Taylor stepped up for a corner and sent the ball toward the middle of the penalty area. Justin Haak rose above the Colorado defense and directed his header into the net.

3–2 Galaxy.

After trailing by two goals at halftime, LA had completed the comeback.

For Haak, the goal was especially memorable. It was his first goal for the Galaxy and his first of the 2026 MLS season.
