CLUB WORLD CUP DECIDER: LAFC VS Club America

LAFC VS CLUB AMÉRICA: WINNER TAKES FINAL SPOT IN 2025 FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP

The final ticket to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is on the line as Los Angeles FC and Club América prepare to face off in a do-or-die playoff match. This high-stakes encounter will determine which club earns the last available spot in the newly expanded 32-team tournament set to take place in the United States next summer.

WHY THIS MATCH IS HAPPENING

This unexpected playoff stems from the disqualification of Club León, who had earned their Club World Cup spot by winning the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League. FIFA ruled León ineligible due to a violation of its rules on multi-club ownership — both León and Pachuca are owned by Grupo Pachuca, which is not allowed under tournament guidelines.

After the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld FIFA’s ruling, the governing body announced that the vacant slot would be decided by a playoff between LAFC — the 2023 Champions League runners-up — and Club América, who were the top-ranked team in CONCACAF following the 2024 Champions Cup.

VENUE IS BMO STADIUM

While the match is expected to take place on May 31, 2025, the official venue has been confirmed It will take place at BMO stadium in Los Angeles. FIFA and the organizing bodies have came to a conclusion. Given both teams' large followings in the U.S. and Mexico, the choice of venue could play a key role in the atmosphere and crowd support.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

This isn't just about pride — there's significant financial and sporting reward on the line. The winner will not only get to compete on the global stage but also receive a minimum prize of $9.55 million, with bonuses for group stage wins and draws.

Whoever qualifies will join Group D of the Club World Cup, facing powerhouse clubs including Chelsea (England), Flamengo (Brazil), and Espérance de Tunis (Tunisia). For either LAFC or Club América, it would be a major opportunity to make a mark internationally.
